Uber XL Car Requirements – All You Need To Know
If you are interested in driving for UberXL, there are two things that you need to be aware of. One, you need to know the Uber XL car requirements; and two, you need to know the driver requirements.
In this post I’ll be going over all you need to know about the requirements your vehicle must pass before you get started.
UberXL is like UberX‘s big brother. It is the “big” version and is the most popular large capacity Uber service that is offered, meaning it is requested most.
When you think UberXL you should be thinking SUV’s. UberXL is all about being large and being able to transport a lot of people. It is commonly used for group transport which can lead to some pretty good fares.
UberXL is also the least luxurious of the “large” Uber services. This is good for you because it means that it is easiest for your car to pass the requirements.
UberXL vehicles must be SUV’s or minivans. In addition they must meet the following…
Your vehicle must be able to seat 6 additional passengers.
The A/C, windows, and doors must all be in working condition and be able to be controlled manually. Your vehicle must also have at least 4 independently opening doors.
The interior of the vehicle must be in good condition.
You can get away with small rips, stains, etc. because this service isn’t one of luxury. But major interior damage may result in your vehicle not qualifying.
The exterior of the vehicle must be in good cosmetic condition.
Again, same thing here. You can get away with minor cosmetic damage such as small dents, scratches, rust, etc. due to this not being a luxury service.
The age requirement of your vehicle varies depending on where you live. All vehicles must be a 2002 or newer nationwide, but many cities require it to be a 2007 or newer, such as Miami, Pittsburgh, and more.
To check the age requirements in your area you have to go to Uber.com/drive and click on the Requirements section.
Personal vehicle insurance is required. Your vehicle’s insurance must be in accordance with the state and local laws of your area.
In addition to this insurance, you are provided with Uber insurance that helps cover costs while driving for Uber.
The vehicle must be registered with the state you drive in. This registration does not have to be in your name and can be temporary.
Your vehicle cannot have been salved or rebuilt. It will need a clean title.
There are not marked vehicles allowed. This means no taxi cabs, government vehicles, etc.
Additionally, not full sized trucks or vans are allowed.
Popular UberXL Vehicle Models
Just to give you a better idea of what cars qualify for UberXL, here is a list of some of the more popular cars that are driven for this service…
Does Your Vehicle Qualify?
If so, then it is important to read over the Uber driver requirements to see if you, the driver, qualifies. Seeing that the car meets Uber’s criteria is just one part of the equation.
If your car is not going to pass then I suggest you read my post on how to drive for Uber without a car. They offer some good car renting, leasing, and buying deals that you may be interested in.
