First it was Uber, then Lyft came along… now its Amazon Flex?? Ya something like that! But Amazon Flex might be the better choice for you. They bring something different to the table.
Amazon Flex is revolutionizing the way packages get delivered, just like how Uber came along and revolutionized the way people pay for transportation. Now with Amazon Flex delivery jobs, pretty much anyone who has a vehicle can go out and deliver packages on their own terms and make money. The good thing about Amazon Flex is that it is much newer than Uber and similar services, it still has a lot of room to grow and there is less competition, which means more opportunity for you.
Working for Amazon Flex gives you the incredible benefit of FREEDOM. You are you own boss, you work your own hours and set your own schedule, you don’t take any crap from anyone.
And one major added benefit that Amazon Flex has over Uber is that you don’t have to pick up complete strangers for money. You don’t have to worry about your next pickup being a serial killer or an axe murderer, because you are just picking up and delivering innocent motionless packages.
Some people really get uncomfortable about the whole “picking up strangers” thing, so if that is you, but you still want a job where you have the freedom that you get with Uber, then Amazon Flex is definitely something to consider.
But before you decide whether or not you want to drive and deliver for Amazon Flex, there are some things you need to know, like…
And questions like these are exactly what I will be going over here today.
To start things off, let me dive into how this whole thing works first…
A little history for you..
Ok, so way back in 2015 Amazon created Amazon Flex to help speed up the delivery of packages to their members. You know how Amazon Prime members get free 2 day shipping? Ya, well apparently that isn’t good enough. Amazon had the crazy idea of getting peoples packages to them within an hour of ordering!
Of course UPS, USPS, and FedEx wouldn’t be able to get people’s packages to customers this fast, and it would be too expensive for Amazon to get a fleet of delivery trucks.. So what they did was created this awesome opportunity where just about anyone with a car can go out and deliver, which is Amazon Flex.
Some of the more notable benefits include…
With Amazon Flex you have the freedom to work whenever you want, but there are shifts… How does this work?
Amazon Flex shifts are know as “blocks”. Depending on your city, the blocks may be anywhere from 2-4 hours at a time and run from early in the morning to late at night.
The reason I say “you can work whenever you want” is because its not like you set your schedule and then can’t change it. The shifts (blocks) are something that you can pick right before you go out and work that shift. It could be 9am on Saturday and you could choose to work the 10am shift. So you are still pretty free to choose when you work.
Just like Uber, there is an app for Amazon Flex that you need to have. This is where you will get important information like where to deliver, how to deliver, when not to deliver, etc.
Its not like you just go out and drop off packages. I mean thats the gist of it, bit its important to follow the delivery instructions. Sometimes you will be delivering items that have an age requirement, such as alcohol, and you will be asked to “check customer’s ID” or “Deliver only if someone is home”.
The entire process of how it works is pretty simple…
You will start out your day by going to the Amazon Distribution Center in your area. You will pull into a designated area for Flex drivers and you will be given packages to be delivered within the next hour.
You will then go out and deliver them as the Amazon Flex app instructs you to.And once you are finished delivering the packages, you simply report back to the distribution center to pick more up.
Driving for Amazon Flex is a simple job. Once you are out on the road, its just you and the boxes. You can listen to music and relax as long as you get the packages delivered.
The app is your only boss, which I think is a lot better than having a real person there tell me what to do.
If you want to driver for Amazon Flex you must meet the following requirements… Don’t worry. Its about as lenient as it could possibly be.
And that is it. If you aren’t a convicted felon, have a smartphone, a car, haven’t been in any bad accidents recently, and are at least 21 years old then you are good to go.
What if your car breaks down? What if you get a flat tire? What about the gas you will have to put in your car?
These are all possible expenses that will come with driving for Amazon Flex. But will Amazon cover any of these for you? Do you get reimbursed because you are working for Amazon?
You don’t really work “for” Amazon, but rather you work “with” Amazon. You are considered an independent contractor just like you would be if you worked for Uber or Lyft.
Because you are not considered an employee, Amazon Flex isn’t required to treat you as nice as they would be if you were. This is an are of controversy and there are attorneys fighting for employee rights for Amazon Flex drivers.
But as for now you have to pay for gas, you have to pay for vehicle upkeep, you have to pay for all of that. This is definitely a downside of it all, but the pay is still pretty good and you will see below in the next section that you will be able to get money back for driving expenses when you file your taxes as well.
Amazon claims that you can make $18-$25 delivering for their Flex service, but how true is this? Companies like Uber and Lyft are well known for exaggerating their drivers’ earnings, so is it the same way with Flex?
The truth is that Amazon is telling the truth!
If you want to realistic expectation as to what you can expect for a salary, there is no better place to look than Glassdoor, where people can post Amazon Flex salaries anonymously.
As you can see the average salary is right around $18.
A way to boost your pay a little bit more is through tips. Amazon allows its customers to tip you through their online portal up to 48 hours after you have delivered their package. So make sure you are kind and courteous when delivering!
Drivers receive all (100%) of the tips left for them.
This is what is important. You need to factor in the tips and then take out the driving related expenses to see what you really make and can take home. I have already written a that goes over how much you can realistically expect to make as a Flex driver that you can read by clicking the link below…
Support is a must. And when you are working by yourself like Amazon Flex drivers do, you really need to be able to get in touch with someone if something were to come up or something goes wrong. Because you might not know when you need an apartment access code or a gate code or anything where you need support.
Luckily, there is support!
There are 2 separate support phone numbers, one dispatch number for when you are working and another number for when you are not on the clock.
And besides phone numbers. Amazon Flex also runs daily Q & A sessions where you can get answers that you are looking for and they have an email support address which is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Having just came out in 2015, it is still relatively new and has more room to grow. Currently (as of February 2017), Amazon Flex is available in 37 cities across the US which include…
If you city didn’t make the list then unfortunately there is no opportunity to work for Amazon Flex. However, I suggest checking here for an updated list because, as I said, this business is still growing.
And also just because Flex is available in your area doesn’t mean that there are positions open.
As with any job, there are going to be complaints no matter how good it is. And Amazon Flex is no different. There are complaints, the most common being…
Hard To Get “Blocks”
As I mentioned above, when you work for Flex you have to schedule your shifts at least 2 hours in advance. These shifts, or blocks, can be hard to get because of all the other drivers that are also trying to get them. Just because you sign up for a block, doesn’t mean you are going to get it.
Blocks Are Too Short
The length of these shifts will vary depending on the location you are delivering for. I have seen them range anywhere from 2-4 hours.
People that are relying on income from driving for Flex do not like the 2 hour shifts because they don’t provide enough money.
No Reimbursement For Car Expenses
Again, with Amazon Flex you are considered an independent contractor, not an employee, so they do not have cover on the job related expenses such as gas, maintenance, repair, etc.
This is a very controversial topic. It has actually been taken to court in an attempt to sue Amazon Flex for not considering drivers employees.
This goes hand-in-hand with it being hard to schedule blocks. Since you never really know what blocks are going to be available or not, you can’t really count on a certain income to bring home.
The pay is good “when you get blocks”, but when you get them you don’t know much in advance.
It has been suggested that Amazon should use a ranking system that gives certain drivers preference when it comes to choosing blocks, but this has yet to be seen in action.
You might get some strange looks from customers when they see you (in plain clothes) delivering their package. I creeps some people out, but Amazon Flex is getting more noticed and people are starting to get used to it.
Not a big deal, just something I thought I’d mention.
Amazon Flex can be a good side job, and that is how I recommend you treat it. Making $18 (minimum) per hour driving around your car in your spare time sounds like a pretty good idea. Just don’t try to make this a full-time job, the hours just aren’t reliable enough for you to be able to count on it.
Some areas will be better than others. This depends on the amount of Amazon Prime Now deliveries there are and the amount of competition from other delivery drivers. If you start out part time and there is opportunity to get more hours, then go for it. All I am saying is don’t count on this being the case.
If Amazon Flex fits the bill and is what you are looking for, and you meet all of the requirements, then you need to know how you can get started right away.
Applying is very simple and is all done online. There is no face to face interview or anything of that nature.
Step 1: Sign up
You can visit the sign up page here. It will only take you a few minutes to complete this. You will choose your location, answer a few simple questions just to make sure you are qualified (Ex: “Are you at least 21 years of age?”), and fill out some personal information including your name, email, etc.
Step 2: Wait To Hear Back
It might take up to a month for you to hear back as to whether or not you are being considered for the job.
Step 3: Fill Out Survey
If you did end up getting passed the first qualification step, you will be emailed a survey that you are to fill out and you will be invited to attend an online information session to learn more about the job.
The survey is just to further make sure you are qualified for the position. It will ask you about your vehicle, your insurance, your smart phone, etc.
Step 4: Download The App
If you make it passed the survey they will invite you to download the Amazon Flex app to your phone. A link will be provided.
Finding where to download the app can be tricky and varies with whether you have an Android or iPhone. You can learn more about how to download the app Here.
Step 5: Submit Identification
Log into the app and submit your driver’s license and Social Security Number for the required background check. It will take several days for the background check to clear.
Step 6: Submit Payment Info
They will pay you via direct deposit so you will be asked to link your checking account to the app. You will also be asked for your W-9 for tax reasons.
Step 7: Watch Training Videos
There are 19 different training videos that you are supposed to watch. These videos will go over different situations that you may encounter on the job and how to deal with them.
After all of the training videos have been watched and the background check is cleared, a “Welcome to Amazon Flex” screen will pop up and you will officially be an Amazon Flex driver.
You won’t be receiving anything even close to what you will receive when you sign up to drive for Uber or Lyft (up to $1,000), but many people do receive a $50 Amazon gift card, which is nice.
How much do Uber drivers make? This is the question that everyone needs answered before they decide whether or not they should take the dive and sign up for Uber. But this question is complicated and comes with many answers. In this post I’m going to be revealing how much I am currently making with Uber in 2017, as well as what other driver’s I know are making. I am also going to be giving you a general estimate of what you could be making if you decide to sign up today.
Before I get into what I am currently making driving for Uber, its important to know how Uber pays you, how the fare breaks down and how much of it you get.
When someone rides with Uber, their charge consists of 2 things, the fare and the booking fee. The fare is how much they actually charge you to get a ride, and the booking fee is an additional fee to cover Uber expenses such as background checks for new drivers and things of that nature.
The amount an Uber costs depends on the location. I drive for Uber in Pittsburgh PA and this is what the cost for an Uber currently is listed as in this area (UberX is the most common and cheapest type of Uber)
As you can see the Base Fare is $1.30 and then there is $0.15 added per minute of the drive and $1.05 added per mile. The booking fee in Pittsburgh is at $1.45. And then the minimum fare is at $6.95.
The minimum fare is the absolute minimum that a rider will pay for an Uber.
And then of course the cancellation fee is $5, which is nice because you will get people that cancel on you when you are already in route to the pickup location. sometimes this works out to your advantage and you get paid more for your time when people cancel.
So take this for example: Say someone is going from Heinz Field to the Pittsburgh International Airport. This route is about 30 minutes and 18.1 miles. So the math behind the charge would work out like this…
($1.30 base fare) + ($0.15 x 30 minutes) + ($1.05 x 18.1 miles) = $24.80
The total that the Uber rider is paying for that 30 minute trip is $24.80
BUT THIS ISN’T THE AMOUNT THAT YOU AS A DRIVER WILL MAKE. Of course not! You only get a percentage of that. And how much is this? How much would you make in those 30 minutes of driving?
Uber is going to take 25% of that total fare, and you (the driver) are going to be left with 75% of it.
So 75% of $24.80 is going to be $18.6
That really is a good bit of money for 30 minutes of driving. And this is realistic for the route I just went over. Of course you shouldn’t expect to make that kind of money every 30 minutes, but this is just to give you an example of how the fares work and how much you can make on one ride.
Its important to also remember that this is before expenses, which I will go over shortly.
Ok, so I just went over how the fares work and how much you get paid depending on the fare. But that was just an example of one particular fare that you could earn if you drive in Pittsburgh. But what about everywhere else?
To check Uber driver salaries for locations all across the country, Glassdoor seems to be one of the sources. At Glassdoor Uber drivers can submit their salaries anonymously. It has a good reputation and is accurate judging from my knowledge and experience in the industry.
So far they have had close to 400 salary reviews by Uber drivers and the average hourly pay works out to be just over $14/hr.
That really isn’t all that great in my opinion but it still beats working at a fast food restaurant of something like that.
But just know that Uber earnings vary greatly depending on the area that you are driving in.
New York City, for example, is famous for very high fares and Uber drivers tend to make very good money here. If you look at the Glassdoor Uber salaries in NYC you will see this…
They make well above the average. If you average out the numbers above, which you have 14 people saying they make an average of 22.34/hr and then you have 5 people saying they make $16.38/hour. If you average out this you will get an average (of the average) being $20.77/hr.
$27.77/hour is pretty darn good. But this number doesn’t tell you what type of Uber these drivers are driving. The Uber service you are driving for will also have a big effect on how much you will make.
Your car (the Uber) makes a difference in how much you will make. The most common type of Uber is UberX, which is your normal 4 door sedan.
But there is also UberXL, UberLUX, UberLUX SUV, UberBLACK, & UberSELECT, which all cost more for riders and that means the drivers get paid more.
Just to give you a quick overview of all the Uber services offered in case you are unfamiliar with them, here you go…
And just to give you an idea of the price differences that there are when driving for the different services, check this out. If you are driving for Uber in Miami & South Florida here are several options and the price differences between them…
Driving in the Miami area for UberX isn’t so great. The minimum fare cost is just $5. But if you drive for UberXL its a little more…
And if you have a high end vehicle and want to drive it for UberLUX then you could be making a good bit more… with a $10.70 minimum fare.
You see, there are some big differences in the fare prices between the Uber services.
But just because you drive a more expensive Uber, doesn’t necessarily mean you are going to make more money. You will get more money for the time spent driving obviously, but you also are likely to not drive as much, just because the demand isn’t as high as it is for the cheaper services.
I drive for UberX as a “side hustle” and usually average around 15 hours per week. I do this because I find it somewhat relaxing driving around and of course I’m making money doing so. Also, since I’m not working all that much, I only choose to work at the best times of the week.. the times that make me the most money.
For my main job I telecommute and can work whenever I want, so I put Uber first, work the best hours, and work my main job when I’m not working Uber. It works out pretty well.
But anyways, how much do I make driving for Uber in the Pittsburgh area?
I average anywhere from $15 – $22 per hour. So if I take a number in the middle, lets say $19/hour and I’m working 15 hours per week that comes out to $285 for that week. In my opinion thats some decent pay for the small amount of time that I am putting in. And I don’t really consider it work. Its kind of like a hobby to me.
When you drive for Uber, you are not considered an employee, but rather a partner. Because you are just a partner Uber doesn’t have to really do much of anything for you.
There are a lot of expenses that come with driving your car around picking people up, and unfortunately for you the driver, Uber isn’t going to cover nearly any of them.
You are responsible for all car maintenance and upkeep. You do not get reimbursed for gas, wear and tear, oil changes, or anything of that nature.
Generally, I say that you can expect 10% of your pay to go back into your car for the upkeep. Now of course this can vary greatly depending on your vehicle.
If you are driving a POS (piece of shit) car that has bad O2 sensors and is guzzling gas like crazy, then you are going to be putting a nice chunk of your pay back into the car. But if you are driving a hybrid 2017 Toyota Prius (58mpg in city) then you are going to be able to keep pretty much all of the pay you get.
And on top of the car related expenses that you are required to cover, you also have to think about the taxes that are going to get taken out of your pay. This is going to be another 10% or so.
Since you aren’t employed by Uber and are just a partner, you are considered an independent contractor and must pay Federal Income Taxes as well as a Self-Employment Tax. Uber will mail you a 1099-K so that you are able to do this. Filing a 1099 isn’t any harder than filing a normal W-2, there is a great article on how to file a 1099 here.
Luckily, taxes aren’t so bad. You are able to deduct $0.535 for every mile that is driven for business purposes. This is just an estimated gas expense cost that the IRS came up with. Sometime this works out to your advantage. Because if you are driving a new hybrid car, you aren’t going to be spending $0.535 per mile on gas, but you will still be able to get this much back with your taxes.
So if you take the $19/hr average that I make and take 10% off for vehicle expenses and then take another 10% off for taxes, my pay drops down to $15.2/hr of pure profit. And really, I’m still happy with that number.
Uber is nice enough to cover some of your expenses, but not much.
One such expense is your liability to third parties. When you are accepted into Uber you automatically are covered by their liability insurance. As I said this covers your liability of your passengers and is up to $1 million. This insurance applies only when you are logged onto the Uber app, so when you are on a trip or on going to a trip it applies.
They also have an insurance policy that will cover bodily injury of you and anyone in your vehicle up to $1 million if the accident was caused by another driver that was uninsured or under-insured.
And their last insurance policy which all drivers are covered by is their comprehensive/collision insurance. This covers drivers’ vehicle damage on a trip or going to a trip. There is a $1000 deductible with this. And its also important to note that you still need to have your own personal car insurance.
And besides insurance of you, passengers, and your vehicle, Uber also covers inspection costs.
This depends on where you are driving for Uber. In many areas you can get your inspection costs completely covered by Uber as long as you go to one of their “Greenlight Hubs”, which is commonly a Jiffy Lube or Sprint Store.
Sometimes Uber will introduce “surge pricing” in certain areas at certain times. What this means is that they will increase fares so that Uber drivers can make more money, giving drivers more incentive to go out and drive. Uber will use this method of increasing fares at busy times and places.
Take advantage of surge pricing if you can and get out there and make more money.
Getting tips from riders is another great way to increase your earnings. The Uber app does not allow tipping, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t get tips in the form of cash. So place a tip jar or something of that nature in your Uber and see how it work out.
The drivers with more expensive Ubers, such as UberLUX’s, are known for getting better tips from their riders. This is because the riders are usually more wealthy. UberX riders for some reason think that they aren’t supposed to tip, but this isn’t true.
I don’t make all that much in the way of tips. If I work 5 hours on Saturday, which I do occasionally, sometimes I will walk away with$50+ in my pocket from tipping. And I know some people that do a lot better than me.
UberEATS is a food delivery service that Uber offers. Instead of driving around people, you are driving around food and delivering it.
There are restaurants that partner with UberEATS. People order food through the UberEATS app at these different restaurants and UberEATS’ drivers in the area are notified.
UberEATS (came out in 2016) is a lot newer than Uber itself, but there is still some good opportunity here. If you live in the bigger cities like LA, NYC, Las Vegas, etc, then UberEATS is going to be a big thing.
One of the downsides to UberEATS is that you actually have to schedule your shifts (not in all cities). Every week there will be a shift calendar that you will receive and you have to put in when you will be available. So obviously you can’t really drive for Uber rideshare if you say you will be available for UberEATS at certain times.
You can make some decent money depending on the area around common eating times like lunch and dinner.
On a positive note, you are guaranteed a minimum of $10-$20/hour depending on your location.
So you might have only 2 deliveries in an hours time that each make you $4. So the total you made for that hour is $8. Uber will then supplement that amount with an additional $2 or so to bring you up to the minimum.
This is definitely nice considering there is no such thing as an hourly minimum with Uber rideshare service.
Uber offers a signup bonus to give people some incentive to start driving for them. The bonus depends on where you are signing up to drive and how much demand there is for new drivers. It can be up to as much as $1,000.
I still recommend Uber to friends and people I know. I like driving for Uber. Its a nice and relaxing part-time job where I can make decent money. I work when I want, however much I want.
I am making over $15/hour after all of the expenses and taxes, just for driving around my car in my spare time. I’m only working around 15 hours a week at the moment, but this adds up to close to $300 extra bucks a week.
My advice: Start driving for Uber part time. Learn where the good spots are, when you can make the most for your time, and then, if there is the opportunity to drive more, do it.
Uber food delivery in Las Vegas is one of your best bets for getting food delivered fast. There are delivery drivers on the clock 24/7 and on average it only takes about 15 minutes between the time you order and the time you are chomping down on those scrumptious hot wings, or whatever you order.
This delivery service is called UberEats, and it is more than just great for hungry people. It is also great for restaurants looking to increase their customer base as well as people looking to drive for them and make money on their own time.
Right now in Las Vegas there are 221 restaurants that are partnered with UberEats ranging from just about every single food you can think of. And if you are on this page because you want to know how to order food through them, here is how…
To order you can do so through the UberEats app or you can do so on any computer, tablet, phone with internet connection.
The ordering process is simple. And here I will show you how to go about it on a regular old computer.
1) Go to ubereats.com and select your location if it hasn’t been already entered for you
2) Click on the restaurant you want to order from on the list of Open Restaurants
3) Search through their menu and click on the food you wish to order
4) And order your food! Its that simple
Before you finalize your order you will be able to personalize what all is on it. Such as if you want lettuce, tomato, or anything that may come on the particular type of food.
And as you can see from the order statement to the left, there is what is know as a booking fee. This is a flat $4.99 fee no matter how much food you order. This is charged to help cover operational costs for Uber.
UberEats is very similar to regular old Uber when it comes to how you work. With UberEats you work on your own time, as little or as much as you want to and you drive your own car. UberEats can be a nice little part time job that you do when you don’t have anything going on. If you drive around at the right time in the right areas you can make some decent money doing this.
If you are thinking about signing up to driver for UberEats you must first see if you meet the requirements to do so. The UberEats driver requirements are less strict than those of a rideshare Uber driver, because after all, you are just driving around food in your car and not human beings.
So what are the requirements for you as a delivery driver? They include…
And if you meet these requirements you then must see if your mode of transportation meets the requirements. In Las Vegas you must either have a car or a scooter to be able to deliver for UberEats.
You can start the short online application here.
Most restaurants that have partnered with UberEats have great things to say about it. The number one being that they are now earning more money because of it. With UberEats your customer base is pretty much guaranteed to grow. More people will see your business because it is featured on the app, and thus more people are likely to order from you.
And part of the reason that more people will order from your restaurant isn’t just because more people will see it, but also because IT IS UberEats! People love Uber and when they think Uber they think fast. UberEats’ deliveries usually only have a wait period of 15 minutes.
If you are looking to make a delivery service or just looking to boost an existing delivery service the looking into UberEats as a possible choice is a must. They will help promote your menu and broaden your customer reach, they will help quicken delivery times, and most of all they will help you make more money by making your customers happy and keeping them coming back.
Whether you are someone that is really hungry and is just looking for food fast, or a restaurant looking to make more money, or someone looking to makes some extra money on your own schedule, UberEats is awesome for everyone.
There are a lot of restaurants partnered with UberEats in Las Vegas, which means more selection for the person looking for a speedy meal delivery (221 at the moment). There are lots of Uber users and potential customers for restaurants looking to partner with UberEats. And there are tons of orders daily and lots of potential to earn money for people looking to drive for UberEats.
UberEats was a great business idea by Uber and whether you want to order food, or partner with them as a delivery driver or restaurant, you can do so at UberEats.com
If you are driving for Uber in Los Angeles or considering doing so, your vehicle is going to have to meet Uber’s requirements for this particular area. And one of the requirements for LA is that your vehicle must be inspected yearly. Or if you are just starting out you must get your vehicle inspected before you can start driving for Uber.
But who wants to pay for inspection? Not Me! And lucky you because you don’t have to. There are free Uber inspection .ocations in Los Angeles and I’ll be going over all of them.
The whole car inspection thing isn’t something extra that Uber requires. It is required by California Law for anyone who drives a vehicle for any purpose that lives in California. So a car inspection is unavoidable regardless of whether you drive for Uber or not.
Inspection by a California Bureau of Automotive Repair licensed center is required every year or 50,000 miles, which ever comes first.
The good part about working for Uber is that you can get this inspection done for absolutely free. Uber doesn’t offer free inspection services in all cities, but lucky for you they do in LA. Uber is partnered with different auto inspection centers and if you go to these places, which they call Greenlight Spots, you can have Uber pay for it all.
You are in luck because LA has 15 different Greenlight Spots, so hopefully you won’t have to drive too far. Most of these Greenlight Spots are Jiffy Lube and Sprint Stores, along with some others.
Uber Greenlight Hub – Redondo Beach, 2400 Marine Ave
Uber Greenlight Spot at Sprint Store – Covina, 1316 N Azusa Ave Suite B
Uber Greenlight Spot at Sprint Store – Bell Gardens, 6919 Eastern Ave
Uber Greenlight Spot at Sprint Store -Northridge, 19420 Nordhoff St Suite A
Uber Greenlight Spot – Koreatown, 3611 Wilshire Blvd
Uber Greenlight Spot – West Los Angeles, 1633 Purdue Ave
Uber Greenlight Spot – Burbank, 103 E Verdugo Ave
Uber Greenlight Spot – Gardena, 14946 Crenshaw Blvd
Uber Greenlight Spot – Glendale, 3035 Rosslyn St
Jiffy Lube – Chino, 4143 Riverside Dr
Jiffy Lube – Downey, 7501 Firestone Blvd
Jiffy Lube – Hollywood, 4020 W Sunset Blvd
Jiffy Lube – Long Beach, 4155 Long Beach Blvd
Jiffy Lube – San Fernando, 11541 Laurel Canyon Blvd
Jiffy Lube – Westchester, 8525 S Sepulveda Blvd
You can get your vehicle inspected anywhere really, its just that Uber will only cover the cost of the inspection if you go to one of the places I listed above. But if you are going to get it inspected elsewhere, just make sure that the auto center is licensed by the California Bureau of Automotive Repair.
It is important to know the Uber Las Vegas requirements if you are interested in pursuing a driver position. Uber’s requirements vary depending on the location and here I am going to be going over those specific to Las Vegas.
So basically there are 2 sets of requirements that must be met for you to be an Uber driver. First, you.. the driver must meet Uber’s requirements, and secondly, your car must meet the requirements.
The driver requirements here are universal in the United States. It doesn’t matter where you are driving for Uber at, you must meet these.
If you meet all of these requirements then the next step is to see if your car meets requirements to drive for Uber.
There are different Uber services available in Las Vegas in which you can drive for and they have different requirements for your vehicle. But they all must first meet these initial requirements…
If your vehicle meets these requirements then you are good to go and you can at least drive for UberX, which I will go over now along with the other Uber services available…
In Las Vegas there are 3 services in which you can drive for including UberX, UberXL, and UberSELECT.
UberX – This is the basic Uber service that is probably what you think of when you think Uber. All you need is a 2001 or newer sedan that meets all of the requirements I went over above. This service gets the most requests and is the easiest to qualify for, but you also make the least amount of money per trip.
UberXL – This is the “big” version of UberX. Here you need to have a SUV or Minivan that is 2001 or newer. It must be able to hold and additional 6 passengers (not including yourself) and its 4 doors (at least) must open independently. This XL service can be more lucrative than the X because you can make more in fares due to more passengers, however there usually isn’t as much demand for this service.
UberSELECT – This service is for mid-tier sedans. For your car to qualify it must be no older than 2012 and have leather or vinyl interior that is in excellent condition. Driving for SELECT will bring you higher fares, but there is also less demand for this than there is with services like UberX. Being that it is Las Vegas, UberSELECT is still in pretty high demand so I would say that if you have a car that qualifies give it a go.
The one requirement for you to drive with Uber, or to drive in Las Vegas period, is that your vehicle must pass inspection. Nevada law requires you to get your vehicle inspected once a year. And to meet Uber’s inspection requirements you can get your car inspected anywhere that is licensed.
But you don’t want to go just anywhere. If you go to certain inspection centers you can get it done for free. Uber is partnered with different places, which they call “Greenlight Hubs” and if you take your car there you won’t have to pay a dime. The Greenlight Hubs in Las Vegas include…
If you are interested in working for Uber the first step is to apply. Don’t be worried, Uber’s hiring process is about as simple as it gets. There is no interview or anything of that nature and if you and your car meet the requirements that I went over above, then there is no good reason you shouldn’t be able to drive for Uber very soon.
1) First you need to fill out the online application at uber.com.
2) Get Your Vehicle Inspected
3) Wait A Few Days
4) Hit The Road
If you live in central Florida and are looking to drive for Uber you may be wondering how much do Uber drivers make in Orlando? And to answer this question I will be using the law of averages. Its true that the amount of money you can make with Uber can vary greatly, but by averaging out the revenue per trip, amount of trips per hour, and the amount of hours per week in Orlando, you can get a good idea of what to expect if you are considering Uber driving.
The information I have gathered is from UberX drivers, which is the cheapest and most commonly used type of Uber. My figures are based on research, communicating with Uber drivers in Orlando, and my own experiences.
There are more expensive Uber services, other than UberX, that you can drive for where you may be able to make more money.
A trip is considered the time from the acceptance of a passenger pickup to the dropoff of that (or those) passengers. Trips can vary greatly in length, but like I said, I am talking in terms of averages here.
The average trip in Orlando pays between $8 – $13. I present the average as a range of numbers because it varies so often it would do you no justice to just give you a specific number. Even with this range of numbers you have to take it with a grain of salt. There are times you will bet paid less than $8 and there are times you will get paid more than $13 per trip.
Anywhere between 1 to 3 trips per hour is a pretty realistic goal as an UberX driver in Orlando. So lets say that you average 2 trips per hour. This is very common and is a number you can expect.
Don’t think that you are going to get 3 trips that pay $13 per hour though. If you are getting 3 trips an hour then these are going to be short trips and they are not going to be ones that pay high. They will be small earners.
Most Uber drivers work part-time at around 30 hours a week reportedly.
If you are making $8-13 per trip and working 2 trips per hour then you can expect to earn about $16 – $26 per hour. And at 30 hours per week that will add up to between $25,000 and $40,700 per year.
Obviously making on the lower side of $25,000 per year isn’t something that anyone wants. But this number greatly varies with how good of an Uber driver you are. And I’m not talking just about how well you treat your passengers and how comfortable you make their rides. Sure this is very important. If you want to make as much as possible you are going to want to have great reviews on you as a driver.
But what is also important is knowing where and when to drive in Orlando. If you go to the wrong place at the wrong time you might be sitting in your car waiting for hours on end. But if you hit a sweet spot you could be rewarded with non-stop trips that earn you a pretty penny.
So don’t think you are going to sign up for Uber and start bringing in tons of money just like that. With experience comes rewards. You will know where to go, when to go, and how to maximize your profits with the time spent.
Its true that Uber does not accept tips in their payment system, but there are still people that are willing to tip drivers in cash. And this really depends on the demographics of people you are transporting. When Uber lowered the rates a while back they increased the amount of paying customers that are willing to take Uber, but they also opened the door to more “cheapskates” that would never think of tipping.
Nonetheless, you will receive some tips from time to time. Some people may even hand you a $20 or $50 bill which is a big help. But again, this is something that you can’t really predict.

One of the best places to drive as you can imagine is at the airports. Miami International Airport, Ft. Lauderdale Hollywood International, and Palm Beach International are all great spots.
The Hard Rock Stadium and the BB&T Center are also great spots. If there are events being held and you aren’t doing anything you might want to get out and get some trips under your belt.
Other than these places its not like there are many secrets out there. Just drive when you know there are a lot of people out and about. Near and around bars when they close are always good places.

Requirements for driving for Uber are generally the same everywhere, but there are minor differences. Here I’m going to be covering how to become an Uber driver in Florida. I’ll be going over all of the driver and vehicle requirements, the different Uber services offered and what is available in your area, Uber inspection and more.
To start things off, let me first go over the requirements that you must meet as the driver.
These requirements are for all Uber drivers in all states. In order to qualify to be an Uber driver you must meet the following…
21 Years Old: Firstly, you must be at least 21 years old.
1 Year Driving Experience: If you are over the age of 23 you are eligible with just 1 year of driving experience. However, if you are under 23 you must have 3 years of driving experience.
Clean Criminal Record: You will be asked to provide your SSN and Uber will run a quick background check on you. If you have a felony or misdemeanor that involved theft, violence, or drugs you will not be elgible.
Clean Driving Record: Uber will look at your Motor Vehicle Report (MVR). You will fail this requirement if you have had more than 3 incidents in the previous 3 years, have been convicted of DUI or reckless driving, or have received a speeding ticket for driving in excess of 20mph in the past 3 years.
Most people should not have a problem meeting these requirements. If you meet these then you are good to go. There is no interview or anything of that kind that you have to go through to be selected.
* The background check, according to Uber, takes 5-7 days. However, you can generally expect it to be completed before that.
Now that you know whether you qualify or not to drive for Uber, you now must know whether your vehicle qualifies. The minimum Uber Vehicle requirements in Florida are nothing out of the ordinary. They include…
Age Limit: Depending on the area you live, your vehicle cannot be past a certain age. I have listed the age limits below this section.
4 Door: Your vehicle must have 4 individually opening doors
+4 Capacity: Must be able to seat at least 4 passengers (this means in addition to yourself)
Working A/C & Windows: Your air conditioning and windows must be operable
No Marked Vehicles: Marked vehicles such as government vehicles, taxi cabs, or any kind of commercial branding
No Cosmetic Damage: If your vehicle is beat up then you won’t qualify. However, you can get away with minor damage for the low grade Uber services
No Salvaged Vehicles: Your vehicle cannot be salved or rebuilt
Vehicle Insurance: Your vehicle must be insured and your name must be on the policy
Vehicle Registration: Your vehicle must be registered. However, your name does not need to be on the registration and temporary registration is accepted
Other: Cannot drive full-sized vans/trucks or a Crown Victoria
If your vehicle passes all the requirements listed above then you are already qualified to drive for Uber. Your vehicle would meet the standards of UberX, which is their basic ridesharing service with regular old sedan cars. But there are different service options that Uber offers in Florida including UberXL, UberSELECT, UberLUX, UbeLUX SUV, and UberBlack.
There are some other minor requirements that you might have to meet depending on what Florida city you live in such as putting an Uber sticker on your car and other little things like that.
Every area that has Uber has their normal service, UberX. But if you are looking to get into one of Uber’s more luxurious and costly services then you first need to know what is offered in your area. Because these Uber services are not all available in every part of Florida. Because of this I have put together a list of what is available in some of the larger areas. I have also listed the required age of the vehicle to be eligible because for some reason that varies greatly depending on the location.

Its not exactly Uber inspected, its more like an Uber trusted inspection. And its not like you have to go out and get your car inspected just to sign up to become an Uber driver. If you get your yearly inspection (as is required in most states) then you are good to go.
If you are driving for Uber in Florida your car must be inspected yearly by a certified mechanic. In certain areas of Florida, like Miami and south Florida, the mechanic must be ASE cerfified.
In some areas of Florida you are able to get your vehicle inspected for a discounted price and even for free in some areas. For example if you live in Tallahassee you can get your Uber car inspected at Busy Beavers Auto and Transmission for a discounted price.
Uber has a $1 million liability insurance policy that covers your liability to third parties when you are on an Uber trip. And when I say “trip” I am talking about the time you are actually driving a passenger to the destination.
But Uber even goes as far as to cover liability when you are between “trips”. Not as much however, but it covers bodily injury up to $50,000/individual/accident with a total of $100,000 per accident. As well as up to $25,000 in property damages.
As far as your personal car insurance, all you have to do is meet the standards for the state of Florida.
If you meet all of the requirements then get started right away. Uber is always a good idea. You can work as little or as much as you want (provided that there are people looking for Uber in your area). So maybe you have a tight schedule but have a few extra hours a week, that works fine, you just won’t earn as much. No matter what the hours, whether you are going to do this full time or just do it for a side income, its all money in the end.
If you are ready to sign up you can go over to Uber.com and you will see the page below. Here you will enter your email, name, phone #, location, and so on. Its a very straight forward process and doesn’t take long.
